We look forward to welcoming Debbi to Beaumont!

Debbi Sullivan (US Olympian in 1992, 1996 & 2000 and holder of World and American records in Mile, 3K, 5K, 10K & 20K Walks) will be sharing tips, tricks, and experiences with you at this year's Gusher.

Debbi is from Wisconsin and has been a speaker at many marathons across the country. In presentations, she includes “Mind-Training Secrets" that helped her get onto three Olympic Teams.

She also talks about training ideas for a 1/2 marathon, because it is so similar to her Olympic race distance of 20km. She says there are some definite "short-cuts" to training for success.

Debbi had three awesome coaches in her 30+ years as an elite athlete -- including Dick Brown ~ the coach of Mary Decker (Slaney) in her prime. Debbi set a World Record under Coach Brown's guidance.

She also includes "Walk Like an Olympian" into her seminars ~ where anyone interested can learn the walking technique and get quick one-on-one technique "approval." Runners REALLY benefit from walking.

According to Debbi, Olympic Walking technique utilizes different muscles than running. When a runner adds walking to his or her program, strength & stretch are the noticeable benefits and they become more powerful runners.

Debbi knows this because she was a National Champion runner…..qualified for Outdoor NAIA Nationals 3,000m injured….learned walking…..3 months later....raced 3,000m Run (on walking training ONLY) ....took 3rd ....was astonished!

Brain Cancer Patient pushing his daughter in a stroller wins Exygon & Baptist Hospitals Gusher Marathon

A man racing against time crossed the finish line. His daughter, snugly sitting in a stroller he had been pushing for just over 26 miles, gained a memory that may live longer than her father. "This is supposed to eat away at my memory in the end," Iram Leon said of the cancer in his left temporal lobe. "But I hope this memory is one of the last things to go and one she never loses."

Iram J Leon ran the Exygon & Baptist Hospitals Gusher Marathon, Half Marathon and Kinsel Ford 5K pushing his daughter Kiana in a stroller. Iram has terminal brain cancer.  Despite high winds, a stroller, medications to prevent seizures and a flat stroller tire Iram won the overall full marathon distance with a time of 3 hours and 7 minutes.

Iram borrowed a stroller, lost his iPhone speaker on the course and frankly could use a new computer. Iram has not asked for a dime but we would like to give him a few things to make running a little easier.

Spindletop is a salt dome oil field located in south Beaumont, TX. On January 10, 1901, a well at Spindeltop struck oil, at a depth of 1,139 feet. The Lucas Gusher, often referred to as the Lucas Geyser, blew oil over 150 feet in the air at a rate of 100,000 barrels per day. It took nine days before the well was brought under control.

As the first major oil field located in the United States, the well tripled the entire oil production capability of the United States overnight.

Spindletop was the largest gusher the world had seen and catapulted Beaumont into one of the United States' first oil-field boomtowns. This cheap oil helped to fuel the incredible industrial expansion of the United States over the last 100 years.
